The Hoover Dam

the checkpoint - a separate lane for RV's and trucks

November 10, 2022 continued

We spent the rest of the morning at the Hoover Dam.  We made a pot of real coffee first.  We found a place to take care of our camper tanks.  It was right beside Lake Meade.  We were saddened by how low the lake was.

We went through the checkpoint into the dam.  We were happy to see that security is taken seriously here.  The guards asked Jerry to exit the vehicle, and they checked out the exterior.  One guard entered the camper van and checked out the inside.  Fortunately, Frodo liked him.

We enjoyed a well-designed climb to the bridge overlooking the dam.  Large, interesting, beautifully executed displays gave us loads of information along the way.

my beloved, taking it in

Although it was just mid-morning, the overlook was getting crowded.  On a Thursday.  In November.  Go figure.  We left just as the third large tour bus was pulling in.  We chose not to go into the visitor center.  It was time to hit the open road, and get back to the Route 66 leg of our adventure.
