A house by the sea

another dream - gentle days in a house by the sea

November 4, 2022

Before we left home, we tossed around the idea of spending a few nights in a house on the ocean.  Wouldn't that be a great anniversary present for us, we thought.  We didn't want to tie ourselves down to a months-away reservation, so set that idea aside.  One of us has always dreamed of quiet days by the sea.

While we were in wifi range and on the northern coast, we started looking again.  Look what we found!  A Vrbo listing in the right location for a reasonable price.  Pretty much.

It was worth adjusting our travels to savor the calm and rest we found at our house by the sea.  We loved it.  What a perfect way to celebrate our November 3 anniversary.  Thank you to us for pampering ourselves a little bit.  We didn't take many pictures, but here's what we have.

Our plan was to bypass San Francisco and head inland to Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks.  We checked the weather and learned that a cold front was moving in.  Roads were closing in Yosemite and Kings Canyon.  Chains were possibly being required.  Temps were predicted to drop to the mid-teens.  A couple feet of snow were possible.  All this in the few days we would be passing through.  We decided to rethink our plan.  ha. We're not equipped or interested in traveling in that kind of weather.

Our current plan is to continue down the coast on California Hwy 1.  We've loved the northern section of Cal 1, and are looking forward to revisiting the breathtaking stretch between San Francisco and Los Angeles.  Not a shabby Plan B.  We traveled that section south-to-north when we were here to celebrate Chad's graduation from business school.  We'll avoid Los Angeles and drive inland.  Joshua Tree National Park is our next pin drop on the Great Western Adventure map.

(Today we're happily tucked into the turtle in a small campground in Anchor Bay, CA.  It's raining, but last evening we enjoyed some time on the beach.  I camped here with an Australian friend c. 1981.  I'm pretty sure I found the rock I spent time resting against on the beach that week.  Fun.)
