Wagons Ho!

September 12, 2022

It is our fifth try to set off on the Great Western Adventure, and we're off!  The good thing about all the delays, postponements and cancellations is that we're so well prepared for these months. The bad thing is that we're so well-prepared that we exhausted ourselves getting ready with all these great ideas.

It was a very, very good plan to stop at the Mississippi in our favorite spot and rest for a full day before setting out into new territory. We really began to identify with the pioneers who packed up and headed for the West.  So our friend Essi needed a pioneer hat.  It was a gorgeous day to sit, look at the river, think about our trip, our blessings, and knit her hat.  She likes it.

We've already begun Great Western Adventure traditions.  Besides praying before we leave in the mornings, we now boldly point forward and loudly call, "Wagons Hooohh!!"  Then we sing a chorus of So Long, It's Been Good to Know You.  No one beats Woody Guthrie for road trip music. (We're working up to This Land is Your Land - one of us knows all the verses...)

So, like our courageous pioneer brothers and sisters, we crossed the Big Muddy, adequately provisioned and filled with joy.
